Project Summary

The project Sport for the Whole Family aims at encouraging the participation of the European population in sport and physical activity, focusing especially on the target group of families. The data available on participation in sport in EU countries shows the need to ideate new ways to involve families in sport across different ages, and to give families instruments to benefit from the educational and social value of sport, which is widely recognized by the scientific community.

In this framework, Sport for the Whole Family aims at creating a program of sport activities accessible to people of different ages, to be spread at European level by training sport coaches and implementing a local program for families in each partner country.

Objectives

General Objective: The Sport For The Whole Family (SWF) project aims to increase family participation in sports, promoting the value of sport as a channel for education and intergenerational dialogue. The overarching goal is to develop family physical activity to enhance the well-being of all its members.

1. Relevance: Background and General Objectives

• The project aligns with the Erasmus+ program's sectorial priorities, specifically addressing "Encouraging participation in sport and physical activity."
• It contributes to the Work Plan EU Sport 2021–2024, focusing on creating opportunities for sport and physical activities for all generations.
• SWF aims to make sport more inclusive and accessible, tackling the sedentary lifestyle of children and promoting lifelong physical activity.

2. Needs Analysis and Specific Objectives: Why Sport?

• The importance of sport in physical and psychological well-being is supported by scientific evidence, with benefits extending to self-esteem, communication skills, and societal contributions.
• The project aligns with the European Commission's White Paper on Sport, recognizing sport as a fundamental educational instrument.
• SWF addresses the challenges of childhood obesity and sedentary lifestyles, emphasizing the role of families in encouraging physical activity.

Sport and Families

The project identifies the difficulty families face in regularly engaging in physical activities due to education, economic, and work-life balance constraints. There is a need to develop ways to involve families in sports across different ages and provide instruments to benefit from the educational and social value of sport.

Specific Objectives

Objective 1: Develop a program of activities and strategies for intergenerational groups

• Target: External stakeholders in the field of sport and coaches.
• Activities: Research, focus groups, manual development, international training, pilot test, and local workshops.
• Outputs: Research report, manual, online course, and local courses.
• Evaluation Indicators:
  • Involvement of 90 participants in focus groups
  • Collection of 60 potential good practices
  • Survey participation of 200 people
  • Feedback from 60 external stakeholders

Objective 2: Realize an interactive web platform

• Target: European community, coaches, and families.
• Activities: Develop a web platform and dissemination activities.
• Outputs: Web platform.
• Evaluation Indicators:
  • Involvement of 90 participants in focus groups
  • Over 120 participants in dissemination events

The project involves five experienced sports organizations from different European countries, collaborating to exchange best practices and create an innovative sports program. The program emphasizes inclusivity and addresses the needs of families and intergenerational groups.
